Centre for Sports Sciences medicine and research gets its grant from BWF
October 27, 2018
Badminton World Federation (BWF), a body recognized by the International Olympic Committee, is a sole international body which governs the rules and regulations, conducts highest level international tournaments, promotes, develops and popularizes the sport across the globe. BWF also strives to do badminton related sports science research for which they offer ‘Sports Science Research Grants’.
Presently, BWF has offered a research grant to Manipal Academy of Higher Education’s Centre for Sports Science, Medicine and Research (CSSMR) to design an injury prevention program for badminton players.
The researchers at the CSSMR are aiming at developing a preventive exercise program which will reduce the risk of injuries in badminton players. They will be using latest technology like high speed motion cameras and wireless foot pressure monitoring to study movements of competitive badminton players. After which an injury prevention exercise program will be designed. This program will be tested for its effectiveness and an improvised version of the exercise program will be developed.
Badminton is arguably one of most popular sport in the world, where over 240 million people play it on regular basis, but the research related to this sport is very scanty. Thus BWF and CSSMR, Manipal through this program, have taken an initiative to lessen the number of injuries in badminton players. This will help to improve the performance of the players and reduce the physical, mental and financial burden related to injury.
